What Foods Should I Avoid While I Am Breastfeeding?

chocolateObviously while you are breastfeeding you want to try to eat the healthiest food you can. Make sure your food is very fresh and if at all possible eat organically. Avoid Tran fats and try to eat a really good balanced diet. The better nutrition you get the more nutrition your baby gets.

There are products that you need to avoid while breastfeeding such as alcohol and caffeine. Both will travel through into the breast milk and will affect the baby. Swap them for decaffeinated Tea and Coffee and if you can, ditch Alcohol altogether. Mothers who are heavy drinkers and who breastfeed, can have babies who fail to put on a lot of weight and it can also affect the “let down” response of the milk.

As far as foods are concerned, some babies can be affected by spicy foods and other foods such as onions, cabbage, pizza, broccoli, chilli, curry, garlic and beans. Anything that causes wind can cause them to be uncomfortable. You will soon learn if your baby is sensitive to any of these foods and will learn not to eat them. OH sorry, but chocolate can also react with baby. That’s one reaction you won’t want your baby to have.

The other food and drinks to watch out for are anything high in vitamin C, pineapple juice is said to be the worse, but watch out for oranges, grapefruit, tomatoes and lemon as they can cause a nappy rash in baby. That can be painful and irritating and the last thin g both you and your baby will want.

Enjoy your baby and the breastfeeding and I hope this article has helped you to have some peace of mind.
